The online Master of Library Science at App State
The Master of Library Science (MLS) at App State is a flexible, online program that helps you define your role as a leading information professional.
With a highly interactive curriculum that will prepare you to bridge the gap between people, information and technology, you’ll gain the skills needed to promote equal access to technology, foster digital literacy and help underserved populations.
App State’s MLS program is nationally recognized by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Concentrations
- The School Libraries concentration prepares you for a career in school libraries. Completion of this concentration entitles you to apply for licensure (076 Media Coordinator) from the State of North Carolina. Click for course information.
- The Library Science, General concentration is designed for anyone seeking a career in public and academic libraries. Completion of the Master of Library Science, General program allows you to apply for Public Librarian Certification from the North Carolina Public Librarian Certification Commission.
